Stella’s Christening

Having Stella Christened has always been very important to us. It was also important to us that both our families would be able to be in attendance. The only weekend that we could get this to work, due to the fact that my whole family lives out of town, was the same weekend as her birthday. Since her birthday fell on a Sunday and we were having her party that afternoon, I reached out to the pastor that married James and I to see if he would be willing to Christen her on a Saturday. He said absolutely and we marked our calendars!

Three weeks later the big day arrived. We had a beautiful brunch before at Bistro 31. Afterwards we headed to the church. Walking in we were greeted by James' family. James and I looked around and were confused where Jay (our pastor) was. We assumed he was probably stuck and traffic and agreed to give him a few minutes. Side note: our brother-in-law, Cullen, is Jay's nephew. He insisted this wasn't like him and went to call him. He came back a few minutes later and told us sweet Jay had forgotten and was at the zoo with his grandkids. Jay was close to tears and rushed out of the zoo and headed straight to us.

We were anticipating the whole event to take around 20 minutes, so planning it close to Stella's nap time didn't seem like a problem at the time. She was starting to get very fussy and was not a fan of her gown, but was a trooper. While we waited for Jay, our families were able to catch up, take pictures and play with Stella. We also learned that Stella loves the piano. She played on it for a good 20 minutes. An hour later Jay arrives and is profusely apologizing. We assured him it was more than okay and we just appreciated him dropping everything for a 30 second ceremony. He rushed out of the zoo, so he only had his boots on under his robe. We all had a good laugh at this. He quickly Christened Stella, who at this point was hysterical.

Sometimes things don't go as planned, but when this happens, often times a greater plan unfolds. We have beautiful pictures of Stella and our families. My family was also able to enjoy one-on-one time with her that they surely wouldn't have had if we rushed out of there. We also learned that Stella LOVES the piano, so her Aunt Mary surprised her with the most perfect little piano for her birthday the next day.

In the end, I am so happy she is now Christened and we are so blessed to have a pastor who we call a dear friend. We are also beyond blessed with a family who embraces the moment and is willing to smile for a lot of pictures.

It was a beautiful day!!
